Maryland Dog Daycare Holds Charity Event for Canine State Troopers!

Best Friends Fur Ever will host the annual Bless the Best Irish Fest, a charity event benefiting the Maryland State Canine Unit. This event is to be held March 9th from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm at 1009 Philadelphia Road Joppa, MD.
Best Friends Fur Ever is a interactive dog daycare and overnight center with two locations in in Joppa, Md. and Cockeysville Md. Best Friends Fur Ever hosts various types of fundraisers throughout the year helping local animal agencies and this three-hour event will be the first of the 2013 year.
This family friendly event includes games, prizes, snacks and dog fun. Attendees will be able to watch a variety of demonstrations including drug, bomb and search and rescue. This outdoor event is completely family and dog friendly and all members of the household are encouraged to attend.
Kelly Cullum, owner of Best Friends Fur Ever, began this event after speaking to a state trooper regarding the funding needs for the K-9 partners. Kelly has held this event annually in hopes to spread the word about the K-9's that protect our State.
“[The trooper] explained that it was so important for each dog to have a bullet proof vest, but they cost around $300 each,” Cullum said. “The state does not pay for them."
Purchasing safety equipment and K-9 vehicle necessities are not the only thing the State Canine unit requires funds for. “A newly trained dog purchase price is between $5,000 and $7,000, and the state has a fixed budget considerably less than that price.” The state does offer a fixed budget however events like the one Kelly holds, help offset the cost dramatically.
Over the past four years, Bless the Best Irish Fest has raised over $5000 with more that 300 guests in attendance.
“As we began to plan the event, we decided that beside [the] demonstration[s], we should add in some other fun and meaningful items,” Cullum said. “So in that first year we added a minister to bless all the dogs that attended.”
“We hope to have more people than last year and raise over $2,000,” Cullum said.
Show your support for the astonishing K-9 troopers during this amazing event March 9th at Best Friends Fur Ever in Joppa, Md. Email bestfriendsfurever@verizon.net or call 410-671-7529 to R.S.V.P. with the number of dogs and people in your party.
Lovin It!
